Richie Blackmore – founding member of England’s own DEEP PURPLE, he is champion to all neoclassical axe-men. In Blackmore’s case the term “classical” should be used loosely to include: gregorian, dorian, phrygian, and more recently – medieval. His intro to “Smoke on the Water” is the most played guitar riff EVER. However, that’s not what makes him great; it’s more his fluid arpeggios and articulate picking along with killer tone that makes him such a satisfying listen.
He continues to inspire with Blackmore’s Night, which is his musical collaboration with Candice Night. Together they have been recording and performing new music, inspired by the Renaissance.
Blackmore is seen here playing a Gibson 335 with a Bigsby B5.
